Antibiotic treatment is only effective for cases of sinusitis that are caused by bacterial infections, and 3-day courses may be as effective as 10-day courses of treatment. For cases where there are just symptoms of sinusitis caused by viral infection or allergic sinusitis (rhinitis), antibiotics are of no benefit.
