Can I catch MRSA from someone else?

Healthy people are at very little risk of catching MRSA from an infected or colonised person. Some people are at risk of catching MRSA e.g. those in hospital who are already sick. MRSA is usually spread by physical contact rather than through the air so when a patient is infected in hospital they may be isolated from other patients e.g. placed in a private room until it is safe for them to be among other patients again. The time in isolation varies with each patient. If a patient with MRSA is being cared for at home your doctor will recommend the precautions you should take to prevent MRSA being spread to others. The Center for Disease Control website has information about some precautions to take at home.
