No. Although resistance develops locally and different regions have different levels of resistance to different antimicrobials, antimicrobial resistance is a global problem. Resistance can spread from generation to generation of germs (remember that bacteria can divide into two cells approximately every twenty minutes) or between germs (as explained in the document 'How do bacteria become resistant to antibiotics?' ). Germs can spread in the air, by plane, train, or automobile and between people. They travel with their hosts, e.g. us. All these factors lead to a rapid spread of antimicrobial resistance throughout the world.
